Xbox 360 Backwards Compatibility – What Are the Benefits?

when xbox came out

When Xbox came out, everyone was so excited. Xbox made video gaming so much easier. No more discs to burn through, no more disc swapping, and no more waiting for your games to load up. It also eliminated the problem of the infamous blue screen of death (BSOD). All the problems that plagued the gaming industry were solved with the invention of this revolutionary system, and everyone seemed to jump on the band wagon.

However, that didn’t last long. Soon, Nintendo’s Nintendo Wii took over the lead from the once all-powerful and well-loved Xbox. The Wii, however, had trouble getting out in the States. Many gamers believed that Microsoft’s Xbox was simply a clone of the Japanese game system, the Wii. This belief stemmed from the fact that both these consoles were successful in their respective markets, but the difference between the two was the technology.

The Xbox 360 uses a form of modular technology that allows it to be more flexible than the average console. Unlike the Nintendo Wii, there are many different pieces that can be added or taken off of the system at will to personalize it. These include: game packs, memory cards, cameras, joysticks, skins, joysticks, infrared controllers, CD-ROMs, DVDs, and more. As you can see, there are many different ways to customize your Xbox. There was a time when there were only two different games consoles, but now there are six, seven, and eight-player versions of Xbox, each targeting different genres and gaming tastes.

Microsoft has also decided to target casual and social gamers with their newest line of consoles. Their handheld gaming device, the Play Pad, is designed to be comfortable and easy to hold. Like the Xbox, the Play Pad is fully backwards compatible with all previous Xbox games, meaning that if you have the original, you can use the play pad to play against people that have the 360. In addition to the Play Pad, Microsoft has also released the Kinect motion detecting camera bundle for the Xbox, which allows for users to interact with their television by using their own bodies as an interface with the television. This is the first time that a motion detecting camera will be included in a console, and it seems like it will do very well, making it one of the first must have exclusives when the next-gen consoles come out.

While these are all great ideas, they might not be enough to keep users from buying the Xbox this holiday season. Microsoft has yet to announce any major exclusives for the next-gen consoles, so the chances of them being out are unknown. They have however released several new games for the Xbox 360, including Dance Central, Kinect Joy Ride, and the unrevealed Halo Reach. With all the new games and more coming out, you can expect this year’s exclusives to be bigger than ever.

While the gaming community may be excited about all the new games and new controller options, they aren’t so excited about backwards compatibility with the Xbox. backward compatibility has been a long-standing feature of Nintendo systems, and it looks like Microsoft may be looking to expand that functionality with the next-gen consoles as well. However, if you are someone who only plays Xbox games, and doesn’t care about the quality of the other system, you probably won’t care at all about backwards compatibility. But if you are a hardcore Xbox gamer and have purchased each console at least three times, you may find yourself becoming very excited about playing on your new machine.
